ASK AUTO JAPAN's GLOBAL PROTECTION PROGRAM

ASK AUTO JAPAN will refund your payment incase of total loss of your purchased cars during the transportation, bothoverseas and inland transit, 
subject to ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program. 
ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program is subject to the OCEAN MARINE CARGOINSURANCE provided by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. to ASK AUTO JAPAN.
Conditions of ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program is subject to Institute CargoClauses (C) and other clauses which are applied to the insurance contract 
between ASK AUTO JAPAN and the insurance company. The Clauses are explained insection 7. Below.

1. How Ask Auto Japan's Protection Program works

When you import your cars under terms such as FOB or CFR, you have to import the cars under your own risk. If you purchase cars from Ask Auto Japan, Ask Auto Japan will guarantee you a refund of your payment in case of unexpected accidents resulting to total loss of your cars, subject to Ask Auto Japan’s Protection Program. * Losses which Ask Auto Japan guarantees are specified in section 7 below. Please note that not all losses are refundable. See below for details.

2. Application for ASK AUTO JAPAN's Protection Program

You do not have to make any application because ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program is automatically arranged for your purchased cars. If you do not request for your cars to be covered by ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program, please select [NO] on your purchase order screen.

3. Refundable Losses

ASK AUTO JAPAN will guarantee you refunds for specific losses as below during the transportation of the cars, subject to ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program. Refundable losses are subject to Institute Cargo Clauses (C) and other clauses which are applied to the insurance contract between ASK AUTO JAPAN and the insurance company. These losses are also specified in the INVOICE. Please note that not all losses are refundable.

ASK AUTO JAPAN shall be liable for total loss of exported cars which is caused by risks specified in the Institute Cargo Clauses (C) and other clauses which are applied to the insurance contract between ASK AUTO JAPAN and the insurance company. Therefore, ASK AUTO JAPAN shall not be liable for repair cost due to partial damages to the cars.

4. Interests

ASK AUTO JAPAN's exported cars *any items or goods other than the car itself (accessories) are excluded from the coverage of ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program.

6. Protection Period (When ASK AUTO JAPAN's Protection Program period commences and terminates)

ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program commences when your purchased car leaves the stock yard at the loading port, and continues during the ordinary course of transit, including the overseas transport and the inland transit, and terminates on completion of unloading at the final destination you designate.

* Inland transit made under the purchased car's own power is included in the period. The protection period is subject to Institute Cargo Clauses (C) which is applied to the insurance contract between ASK AUTO JAPAN and the insurance company. The protection period shall also terminate…

• a. on completion of unloading from the carrying vehicle or other conveyance in or at the final warehouse or place of storage at the destination named in the purchase contract, Bill of Lading or any other documents exchanged between ASK AUTO JAPAN and the Customers.

• b. on completion of unloading from the carrying vehicle or other conveyance in or at any other warehouse or place of storage, whether prior to or at the destination named in the purchase contract, Bill of Lading or any other documents exchanged between ASK AUTO JAPAN and the Customers, which ASK AUTO JAPAN or their employees elect to use either for storage other than in the ordinary course of transit or for allocation or distribution

• c. when ASK AUTO JAPAN or their employees elect to use any carrying vehicle or other conveyance or any container for storage other than in the ordinary course of transit

• d. on the expiry of 60 days after completion of discharge overside of the purchased cars from the overseas vessel at the final port of discharge * For further details about the period, please see the clauses listed section 7. Below.


7. Details of the Losses covered by ASK AUTO JAPAN's Protection Program

The refundable losses guaranteed by ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program are specified as below. Refundable losses are subject to Institute Cargo Clauses (C) and other clauses which are applied to the insurance contract between ASK AUTO JAPAN and the insurance company. In no case shall ASK AUTO JAPAN guarantee any losses caused by risks not covered under Institute Cargo Clauses (C) and other clauses of the insurance contract. If you need additional coverage of ASK AUTO JAPAN’s Protection Program for your purchased cars, please contact ASK AUTO JAPAN.

Example of Losses that are guaranteed

Total Loss of the car resulting from Fire or Explosion

Total Loss of the car resulting from Vessel or Craft being stranded grounded or capsized

Total Loss of the car resulting from Overturned or Derailment of land conveyance

Total Loss of the car resulting from Collision or Contact of vessel craft of conveyance with any external object other than water

Total Loss of the car resulting from Theft, Pilferage, Non-delivery of the whole car

Losses caused by War, Strikes



Example of Losses that are not guaranteed

Partial Damage of the purchased car which are repairable (eg. Breakage, Bending, Dent & Scratch)

Loss damage or expense caused by inherent vice or nature of the purchased cars (eg. Rust, Oxidation & Discoloration)

Loss damage or expense caused by delay, even though the delay be caused by a risk insured against

Deliberate damage to or deliberate destruction of the purchased cars or any part thereof by the wrongful act of any person or persons

Loss damage or expense directly or indirectly caused by or arising from the use of any weapon or device employing atomic or nuclear fission and/or fusion or other like reaction or radioactive force or matter

Loss damage or expense which are intentionally made by a third-party (excluding loss damage or expense caused by war, strikes and/or theft and pilferage)

Loss damage or expense caused directly or indirectly by earthquake, volcanic eruption and/or accidents (including tidal waves and fire) arising therefrom

Theft and Pilferage for parts (ex. wheels, emblems etc.) of the cars

8. Incase of Accidents

In case of accidents, please immediately contact ASK AUTO JAPAN so that ASK AUTO JAPAN and the insurance company can verify whether the loss is recoverable under the Protection Program.

How the claim procedure works


1. In case accidents happen, immediately call ASK AUTO JAPAN. Please undertake the initial response as below. ASK AUTO JAPAN will contact Mitsui Summit Insurance to start the claim procedure.

2. ASK AUTO JAPAN or Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance's Claim Agent will give you further assistance.

3. If Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance or the Claim Agents deems necessary, surveyors will check the damage details of the car. The surveyors may ask you for the details relating to the accident.

4. Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance will verify if the claims are payable and contact ASK AUTO JAPAN.

5. You will be contacted by ASK AUTO JAPAN, and if claims are payable, your payment for the purchased cars will be refunded from ASK AUTO JAPAN. Please be reminded that the payments will not be refunded from Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance.

Initial Response in case of Accidents

  1. Please call ASK AUTO JAPAN immediately and ask for further assistance.
  2. Please preserve the purchased car in their original damaged condition. Do not start any repairs or disposal without instructions from ASK AUTO JAPAN or the Claim Agents appointed by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance. Any unpermitted repairs or disposal may result into non-refundable.
  3. You may be requested to prepare documents of below. (Details will be informed to you by the claim agents.)
    1. Invoice
    2. Bill of Lading
    3. Packing List
    4. Delivery Receipt
    5. Notice of Claim to the actual carrier
    6. Photos of the damaged cars.

    Precautions/Reminder

  1. The insurance which Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance provides will covers only interests of ASK AUTO JAPAN. No insurance coverage will be directly provided for customers of ASK AUTO JAPAN.
  2. Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance shall not be liable for the purchase contracts or any refunding arrangements made between ASK AUTO JAPAN and the customers.
